Dorchester's Annual Casterbridge Christmas Cracker 2007

The Supporters Club today recieved the following press release from the Computer Shop, Multivolt, based in Nappers Mite.

    A cracker of night with late night shopping and a host of festive activities. The theme is PANTOMIME. Prizes are to be given to the best dressed shop and to the most original pantomime character. Paul Kinvig , Managing Director of the Dorset Echo and David Barrett, Mayor of Dorchester will be judging with prizes donated by Waitrose.

 South Street, Trinity Street and High West and East Streets closed from 5pm. The streets filled with festive stalls, roasting chestnuts, mulled wine, charity stalls, candy floss, rifle range and lots of music! Events commence at 6pm with the Mill Street Jazz Band at the town pump.

6.30pm Dorchester Town Football Club, 'The Magpies' switch on the Christmas lights at the Town Pump by the Christmas tree

7pm The Grand Procession commences from the Corn Exchange with the Dorchester Carnival Band, Dorchester Arts Centre's Lantern Parade, Father Christmas in a horse and carriage, Postman Pat and The Dorchester Samba Band. The procession route is down South Street, up Trinity Street into High West Street. Wall to wall music will resonate around the town, in the Tudor Arcade, Antelope Walk, outside Barclays and Napper's Mite in South Street, and the lower part of South Street, Trinity Street and Princes Street, Somerfield Car park, including traditional Christmas carols, Jazz, Pop, Rock and Karaoke.

At 9pm the best dressed shop and pantomime costume/characters will be revealed and the prizes presented.

Parking is free of charge from 4.30pm in all council run car parks A free bus will operate from Charlton Down and Charminster to Dorchester and back. And don't forget - there will be late night shopping on the following two Thursdays the 13th and 20th December. For your diary - next year's Casterbridge Christmas Cracker is to be held on Thursday 4th December 2008.
